Salut,

ech hun mer geduecht ech brengen mol rem bessen Liewen hei an de Forum andeems ech iech un der "Restauratioun" vun mengem Kombi mat drun Deel huelen lossen. Eng wierklech Restauratioun ass et jo nach net, mee en stung awer lo eng Zäitchen an bessen Aarbescht ass awer ze maachen. Ausserdeem wäert ech vun der Geleegenheet profitéiren an och deen een oder aaner Upgrade abauen an och wann en rem fit ass, wäerd de Projet nach weidergoen.

An Zukunft kommen also méi oder wéineger regelmässeg nei Posts mat Biller, fir iech um Laafenden ze haalen, an ech versichen sämtlech Schrett méiglechst gudd ze dokumentéiren. Ausserdem berichten ech iwwer Problemer déi sou während deser Zäit optauchen an wéi ech se dann (hoffentlech) geléist kréien. Vläit kann dat deem engen oder aaner an Zukunft weiderhellefen.

i thought that i will bring back life in the forum by letting you be part on the "restoration" of my Wagon. It's not really a restoration, but the car was standing for quite a long time an it's quite some work to do. Further I want to benefit of the chance to build in some upgrades and also when the car is fit again, the project will still continue.

In the Future there will be regularly some post with pictures, so that you always will be up to date and i will try to document everything as good as possible. Furthermore i will try to report about the problems that will occur an (hopefully) how I solved them. Maybe that can help one of you in the future.

Fir déi, déi den Auto net kennen, et handelt sech em en 2003er WRX Kombi, seit 2013 an mengem Besetz. En war awer lo déi läscht 6 Joer an enger Haal/Scheier agelagert, well ech net wierklech Zäit an d'Méiglechkeet haat fir en rem an d'Reih ze maachen.

Den Interieur war zimmlech verstepst an dreckeg, Karosserie gesidd der op den Biller (wann dat mam Upload klappt), Rascht ass op den éischten Bleck awer glecklecherweis keen gréisseren Problem. Wéi et ennert dem Auto, bzw. beim Chassis ausgesäit ergett sech an nächster Zäit, soubaal ech d'Méiglechkeet fir op eng Hebebühn haat. Den Auto stung allerdings méi oder wéineger drechen während der ganzer Zäit.
Wat d'Technik betrefft, et war schon déi eng oder aaner Saach, wéi den Auto ofgestallt gouf, an et ass zimlech secher nach neies dobei komm. Dat meescht wäerd sech lo lues a lues ergin, wann ech ufänken alles auserneen ze huelen fir ze kontolléiren.


For those who don't know the car, it's a 2003 WRX Wagon, since 2013 in my possession. For the last 6 years, it was stored in a barn, because I hadn't really much time an possibility for doing repairs etc.

The interior was quite dusty and dirty. The exterior you can see on the pictures, rust is non the first sight luckily no big problem. Underneath the car and the chassis, I can check as soon as I will have the possibility to go on a car elevator. But the car was standing more or less dry for the whole time.
Concerning the technic, there were already some issues before storing the car, an there surely will be new things. Most I will see, when I start disassembling everything for checking.

Als éischt hun ech den Auto mol missen gudd botzen, fir dass ech mer iwwerhaapt mol een anstännegt Bild vun allem konnt maachen. Also eemol bannen & baussen alles komplett propper maachen. No an no wäert ech och all Deeler déi ech ausbauen an net ersetzen och propper maachen an eventuell och nei lackéiren bevir ech se rem abauen. Zousätzlech profitéiren ech vun der Geleegenheet an botzen och all déi Plaatzen un déi een net drun kennt wann d'Saachen agebaut sin.

First, I had to clean the car, so that I could make a proper view about everything. So one time cleaning everything in- & outside. Bit by bit I will clean and eventually paint all the parts I remove and don't replace, before I install them back. Furthermore I will profit from the opportunity to clean all the spots that cannot be reached when the parts are built in.

Déi 3 éischt Punkten op der To-do-Lëscht waren eng nei Batterie, d'Wischergestängels an d'Sëtzer. Beim Wischergestängels war een Gelenk ausgeschloën sou dass d'Funktioun net méi gin war, d'Sëtzer hun ech missen tauschen, well déi aktuell Sëtzer net konform waren an ech een Airbagfehler haat well keng Säitenairbags méi do waren.
D'Wischergestängels haat ech nei bestallt an dat war och séier getosch. Wischer rof, 3 Schrauwen lass maan, aalt Gestängels raushuelen, Wischermotor rofschrauwen an op dat neit Gestängels montéiren an rem alles zrëckbauen. Oppassen beim montéiren vum Motor op dat neit d'Gestängels, déi Markéirung mam Feil ass net emsoss do ;) (aanerfalls dréint alles den falschen Wee).

Sëtzer haat ech mir gebrauchter op Ebay besuërgt, do war mir allerdings en Malheur ennerlaaf. Ech haat fälschlecherweis Sëtzer vun engem Hatch kaaf (et war allerdings ugin dass se aus engem Blob sollen sin). D'Konsolen vum Hatch sin awer leider aanescht an och d'Steckeren vum Airbag passen net. Erkennbar ass et schwéier, mee d'Stoffnéit verlaafen aanescht an d'Sëtzflanken sin beim Hatch méi niddreg. Spéider ass een emmer méi schlau.
Ech hun awer schnell Ersatz fonnt an hun lo Sëtzer aus engem Bug agebaut. Lo passt alles an d'Airbagluucht ass och aus.
Wat den Interieur betrëfft, ass den Auto lo nees prett fir ugemellt ze gin, dat eenzegt wat nach muss gemaach gin, sin kosmetësch Aarbeschten, déi awer réischt gemaach gin wann Zäit ass bzw. wann den Auto nees ugemellt ass.

passend Sëtzer aus dem Bug / matching seats from a bug

Bei enger klenger Testfahrt ass den Auto nach bessen ruppeg gelaaf an haat deels liicht Aussetzer. Déi waren awer wuël op Spannungspëtzten zrëck ze féiren, well dei aal Batterie nach dran war. Nodeems déi nei Batterie geliwwert an agebaut war, waren déi Aussetzer verschwonnen. D'Halterung vun der Batterie war awer sou raschteg, dass ech do lo eng nei bestallt hun an déi abauen soubaal se ukomm ass.

Dat nächst um Plang wäerten dann d'Bremsen gin. Déi sin 1. raschteg an 2. huet sech bei der Testfahrt rausgestallt, dass baal keng Bremswierkung méi do ass an och den Bremsdrock net sou ass wéi en soll. Präventiv hun ech dofir lo och mol een neien Bremszylinder bestallt, den Räscht leit schon alles doheem.

The first 3 points on the to-do-list were a new battery, wiper assembly and seats. On the wiper assembly was a joint worn out, the seats i had to change, because the current seats were not conform and I had an airbag-fault as the sideairbags were missing.
The wiper assembly was ordered new and was changed quick. Wipers off, loosen 3 bolts, dismount the old assembly, dismount the wipermotor and mount it on the new assembly and put everything back. Caution when mounting the motor on the new assembly, the marking with the small arrow isnt't without any reason ;) (otherwise everything will turn the wrong way).

I bought second-hand seats on ebay, but there was a small error. I bought by mistake seats from a Hatch (they were sold as seats from a Blob). The consoles from the Hatch are different and the plugs of the airbags are different as well. It's hard to discover, but the seat's stitchings are different and the flanks are flatter in the Hatch. Finally I found seats from a bug and mounted them. Now everything fits and the airbaglight doesn't flash anymore.
The interior is now so far ready for registration, the only thing to do are cosmetic works. But I will do them, when there's time or the car is registered.

On a short test drive, I noticed that the car was running bad an hat small engine cutouts. Probably they were because of voltage peaks, since the old battery was still mounted. After changing the battery, there was no problem anymore. The brackets of the battery were that rusty, that I had to order new ones and will mount them as soon as they are delivered.

Next on the list are the brakes. They are 1. rusty an 2. did I discover on the test drive that there is no brake power anymore and the pressure is not as it should be. I ordered preventive a new brake cylinder, the rest is already at home.
